In 1975 a group of orthotists founded the business, with the aim of providing orthotic products and services.
In the decades that followed, the technology for assistive devices evolved, and so did our business: the focus shifted to providing assistive technology, which was an up-and-coming sector at the time.
In 2000, the company was renamed Specialised Wheelchair Company to immediately communicate what the company does best.
Now part of the Country Care Group, Specialised Wheelchair Company continues on its path of helping people find the equipment that will best allow them to live their best lives.
I remember the very first complex case we had. There was this quadriplegic lady who couldn`t move her head due to an operation. After several unsuccessful trials of many different methods to drive a power wheelchair her therapist came to us and asked us for help. There was nothing readily available on the market back then so I had to be creative. We trialled a fibre optic switch connected to her wheelchair control enabling her to drive her wheelchair with her tongue and chin, there was not a dry eye in the room, and that included me. From that moment I decided that I was going to follow my passion and help as many people as I can and improve as many lives as possible.
It is–and always been–about the people.
We are proud of the exceptional products we offer, but even more so of our amazing team, and the relationships we’ve built with the clients we work with.
We’ve also cultivated a great relationship with people within the industry, particularly with prescriber occupational therapists who are always willing to go the extra mile to improve the lives of their clients.
Big enough to make a difference, small enough to care.
At Specialised Wheelchair Company we provide ongoing education to our Product Specialists so they are familiar with the latest products, technology and solutions. We don`t sell products, instead we focus on you: the client, your needs, and we offer solutions. Very often it means that we come up with a custom solution to suit the client requirements. These can be made and manufactured at our local workshop providing a shorter lead time on these products.
As proud members of the Assistive Technology Suppliers Australia Ltd (ATSA) and Australian Rehabilitation & Assistive Technology Association (ARATA) you can rest assured that all our products and solutions meet the highest standards. We are also a registered NDIS Provider which means we can assist you with different funding options to improve your lifestyle.
Since 2004 we have been Quality Assured, meaning that every year our systems, procedures and management are independently audited.
Dealing with a Quality Assured Company gives you the confidence you are dealing with a company that will deliver quality products and services.
“Every product we sell has my guarantee on it and I personally take an interest in your satisfaction. Feel free to contact me anytime.”
